S2 / Classic Cut – Hopsack Cotton Linen Pants

The art of blending is like haute cuisine. Esteemed drapers and tailors are expected to present intriguing material combinations that excel in both aesthetics and quality. For the summer, one can find a blend of pure cotton and linen.

The combination of these two fabrics allows for a harmonious alliance of characteristics. Cotton offers a durable and comfortable touch, perfect for sunny days. Linen, on the other hand, excels at absorbing and quickly releasing perspiration into the air. Additionally, it brings a summer-like feeling with its slightly textured surface

The Lanificio Luigi Zanieri Spa wool factory opened in 1952 near Firenze. With all the tools at its disposal, the workshop ensures dyeing, spinning, and weaving on site. This vertical production organization allows for a high level of service and the development of exclusive collections, based on wool in winter, and linen and seersucker effects in summer.

Lanificio Luigi Zanieri is one of those small artisanal houses that make the richness of the Italian economic ecosystem, and the happiness of designers around the world. Their catalog of fabrics is rich and diverse. It is always a pleasure to browse through their samples to find the fabrics that will make good and beautiful pants.

A pair of trousers is not just fabric. It also includes a belt lining, pocket linings, and buttons. And they are all Italian!

The belt lining consists of three layered fabrics. The upper band is made of Oxford cotton, and the lower band is made of undyed ecru cotton, separated by an embroidered anti-slip piping by Scavini. The pocket linings are cut from the same undyed ecru cotton. The absence of dye is the best option from a hypoallergenic perspective. It also allows for a discreet appearance of the pocket linings behind the light-colored fabrics. The belt lining and pocket linings are pre-manufactured by the Italian company FVL, founded in 1990, ensuring ISO and GOTS-certified quality standards. FVL is particularly committed to sustainability and ethical and social protocols, with continuous control of production processes and a fast and efficient traceability system.

As for the buttons, we don’t go far either, still in the Veneto region. We chose to exclusively use corozo buttons, also known as vegetable ivory, which is natural and biodegradable. Corozo is the hard, white albumen found in the seed of a tropical American palm tree. Bottonificio Padano, established in 1982, aims for the elimination of chemical pollutants and the use of increasingly natural pigments. Since 1982, all water used in production, including dyeing and tumbling, is purified and reused in a “closed loop” system, without any discharge into the environment.

The manufacturing of complex models not being possible with our former provider in Romania, we looked for a workshop in Portugal to develop our Gurkha and Fishtail models. This small artisanal structure founded and directed by a Franco-Portuguese textile baron gave us carte blanche to design qualitative and challenging products, with small series.

he thirty or so seamstresses of this workshop perform wonderfully and for us, it is a real pleasure to be flexible and reactive. This relative proximity allows us to reduce our carbon footprint while producing locally.

Cotton is not afraid of water, so these products are designed to be machine washable, but to avoid shrinkage of the material, do not use programs that are too hot (above 30°) with too strong spinning (1000 turns and more), prefer gentler programs that respect the garment. Don’t use a dryer if you don’t want to end up with shorts!
