Corduroy, an ancestral fabric, continues to be popular. A formidable fabric that is dyed in multiple colors and is declined in small and large stripes (from 16 to 8 ribs per inch). It was for a long time the king for the clothes of the farm and the forest, with robust ribs. In the ’70s, velvet suits were commonplace, watch an episode of Columbo! For pants, it remains a winter staple, warm and soft. We select medium-ribbed velvets, around 10 to 12, for an expressive and modern surface.
The corduroy (or velvet) is made in two steps on very special machines. Two smooth cloths, like cotton chinos, are inserted into a loom, a few millimeters apart.

Needles weave the ribs, which are then like millions of bridges connecting the two fabrics. At the end of the loom, razor blades cut millions of bridges, which makes the two cloths come out independently, which then presents stripes of upright hairs. Corduroy is born. A pleasure of comfort in the cold season.

Clothmaker TFM works exclusively with cotton, linen and blends, such as this sublime cotton and cashmere corduroy woven especially for Scavini in Paris. The Italian textile group controls all stages of fabric production: spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing. This makes it possible to produce specific, high-quality fabrics, all authentically Made in Italy.
The casual garment thus acquires the image of a made-to-measure garment. We’re delighted and proud to have once again been able to unearth top-quality corduroys for this season’s collection, which are usually only available from luxury brands. Our development is accompanied by a great awareness of quality, while favoring local production, we have directed our research in Italy during the year 2021. After many months, we found a small traditional workshop south of Naples that is a blessing.

Our genius craftsman created his workshop at the age of eighteen, in the year 2000. Before that, his parents had also had their own trouser workshop. His only limitations were the space and the recruitment of seamstresses. Apart from that, what finesse, everything is possible! With our new workshop, we develop our volumes and bring a great craft aesthetic. We can work in-depth on models and details, far from the large industrial platforms.

A close collaboration that allows us – it’s very nice – to go to Italy from time to time and come back with a head full of new ideas. The keywords of a Scavini pant are now refinement, craftsmanship & localism. A very luxurious pant, cut from Italian or English fabric. The equivalent of the models of great luxury brands.

Cotton is not afraid of water, so these products are designed to be machine washable, but to avoid shrinkage of the material, do not use programs that are too hot (above 30°) with too strong spinning (1000 turns and more), prefer gentler programs that respect the garment. Don’t use a dryer if you don’t want to end up with shorts!
